Laugin er „nokkurra ára gömul og mynduð með þeim hætti að stíflaður hefur verið um 150 metra heitur lækur með torfi og grjóti sem ber með sér affallsvatn frá heitavatnsborholu í rúmlega 100 metra fjarlægð. Vatnið í lauginni er passlega heitt til böðunar og um 1 metri að dýpt. Laugin rúmar stóran hóp baðgesta samtímis, leirbotn er í henni og hún gruggast við notkun.“ Engin búningsaðstaða er við laugina en hún er í umsjón Húsavíkurdeildar 4x4 og vélsleðamanna á Húsavík. Árið 2009 var laugin uppþornuð og óvíst hvort hún verður nothæf aftur. Nálægt lauginni eru skálar, sá nýrri frá 1958 sem stendur ferðalöngum opinn. Í 30 – 40 mínútna göngufjarlægð er Togarahellir.
