„Vatnshornsskógur, sunnan við Skorradalsvatn innanvert, er sannkölluð náttúruperla. Hann er vöxtulegasti náttúrulegi birkiskógur á Vesturlandi með gömlum og stórvöxnum trjám í þéttum skógi. (...) Vatnshornsskógur er náttúruskógur og er reynt að gera sem minnst til að spilla þeirri stöðu. Þess vegna hafa hvorki verið lagðir stígar né gerðir áningarstaðir í skóginum. Fólki er frjálst að ganga um skóginn en þess er vænst að það taki aðeins myndir og skilji aðeins eftir fótspor.“ Neðarlega í brekkunni má finna allstórvaxin birkitré á vesturlenskan mælikvarða, allt að 6-7 m há. Skógarbotninn er gróskumikill og þar má finna burknabreiður. Hluti skógarins gengur einnig undir nafninu Klausturskógur tengt skógartekju Viðeyjarklausturs.
