History & Background

Systrafoss takes its name from the Benedictine convent that operated at Kirkjubær from 1186 until the Reformation. The waterfall drops from Systravatn, and together the lake, waterfall and nearby Systrastapi preserve place-names associated with the convent and the nuns who lived in the district.

Systrafoss（姐妹瀑布）从Kirkjubæjarklaustur村上方的山坡级联而下。带台阶的步行道通往顶部，提供美丽的景色。瀑布以曾经住在这里的中世纪修道院的修女命名。
