„Saurbæjarkirkja Laugalandsprestakalli í Eyjafjarðarprófastsdæmi. Saurbær er bær og kirkjustaður í Saurbæjarhreppi, innstu sveit Eyjafjarðar. Heimildir eru um kirkjur að Saurbæ á öldum áður og á katólskum tímum voru þær helgaðar heilagri Cecilíu og heilögum Nikulási. Prestar eru nafngreindir á 14. öld. (...) Árið 1907 var Saurbæjarprestakall sameinað Grundarþingum en prestur sat þar samt til 1931. Saurbæjarkirkja er ein örfárra torfkirkna landsins og stærst hinna upprunalegu. Séra Einar Thorlacius (1790-1870) lét reisa hana 1858. Hún rúmar 60 manns í sæti og yfirsmiður var Ólafur Briem. Hún er friðlýst og í umsjá Þjóðminjasafnsins.“
