Rauðfeldsgjá is a narrow, dramatic gorge slicing deep into the mountainside near Arnarstapi on Snæfellsnes. A cold glacial stream runs through the bottom of the gorge, which narrows to barely shoulder-width in places. Adventurous visitors wade upstream through the water into the darkness, squeezing between towering cliff walls up to 50 m high. Named after Rauðfeldur, a character in Bárðar Saga Snæfellsáss who was supposedly thrown into the gorge.
