A hidden cove where a cunning outlaw sought refuge and met his fate.

Andakíll, a small bay on the western coast, is steeped in the legend of Gísli Súrsson, the outlaw hero of one of Iceland's most famous sagas. After being exiled for murder, Gísli lived as a fugitive, often hiding in remote and rugged locations. Andakíll is said to be one such place, where he found temporary solace from his pursuers.

The saga recounts Gísli's final stand and death. While the exact location of his end might be debated, the name Andakíll (meaning 'Duck's Inlet' or sometimes interpreted as 'Soul's Inlet') evokes a sense of isolation and the end of a troubled life. Standing here, you can almost feel the dramatic tension of Gísli's struggle against fate and the harsh Icelandic landscape.
