"Þorsteinn hvíti hét maður er bjó að Sandhaugum, suður frá Eyjardalsá. (64) Það bar til tveim vetrum fyrr en Grettir kom norður í sveitir að Steinvör húsfreyja að Sandhaugum fór til jólatíða til Eyjardalsár eftir vana en bóndi var heima. (64) Grettir hafði spurn af þessu og með því að honum var mjög lagið að koma af reimleikum eða afturgöngum þá gerði hann ferð sína til Bárðardals og kom aðfangadag jóla til Sandhauga. (64) Síðan sneri hann aftur og var þá hálfrökkvað er hann kom heim til Sandhauga og kallaði til matar. (65) En er Steinn prestur kom til Sandhauga varð hann brátt þess vís að þar var kominn Grettir Ásmundarson er Gestur nefndist. (66) En Grettir hafði farið heim til Sandhauga. (67) Grettir var síðan á Sandhaugum um veturinn. (67) Þetta sumar er á leið fæddi Steinvör að Sandhaugum sveinbarn og hét Skeggi."
