Laugarbrekka was an old farm and assembly site on Snæfellsnes. Among the best-known people connected with the place is Guðríður Þorbjarnardóttir, whose travels are described in Eiríks saga rauða and other medieval sources. The sagas recount journeys from Iceland to Greenland and Vinland, where her son Snorri was born, and later travel in Europe. A modern memorial near the old farm site commemorates Guðríður and her remarkable journeys.
