This is why 4x4 vehicles (often "Super Jeeps" with modified tires and high clearance) are essential for these tours, whether self-driven or with a guided tour.
• Hiking Opportunities: The Highlands are a hiker's paradise. Many tours incorporate stops for short walks or offer options for longer treks, like sections of the famous Laugavegur trail (connecting Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk).
