For centuries, Kaldrananes has been home to a farmer's church, and the current structure standing proudly on Kaldrananes is recognized as one of the oldest buildings in the county. Constructed in 1851, the church was built from sturdy timber and subsequently clad with corrugated iron, a material that has given it its distinctive weathered appearance, harmonizing with the rugged Westfjords landscape. This building serves as a tangible symbol of the area's long and rich spiritual history. Over recent years, a gradual but dedicated effort has been underway to repair and restore this ancient house of worship. Great care has been taken to employ methods and materials appropriate to the church's age, ensuring the preservation of its original character and appearance. Furthermore, the church's immediate environment has also seen significant improvements, notably the construction of a new, traditionally built wall encircling the churchyard. Kaldrananeskirkja falls under the Hólmavík parish within the Westfjords deanery. Its historical significance was formally recognized when it was designated a protected site on January 1, 1990, in accordance with the age clause of Article 36, Paragraph 1 of the Icelandic National Heritage Act no. 88/1989. This protection ensures its continued existence as a vital part of Iceland's cultural and religious heritage for future generations.
