Hrauneyjafossstöð uses water from Hrauneyjalón and the regulated Þjórsá–Tungnaá system to generate electricity. The station stands by the Sprengisandur route southwest of Sigöldustöð. It is an infrastructure site rather than a natural waterfall attraction, so visitors should use designated public viewpoints and never enter operational areas without permission.
