霍尔纳菲厄泽的名称源于维斯特拉霍恩山下的古老定居农场Horn。1880年商船开始停靠,1897年赫本出现永久定居。赫本1946年成为独立市镇,1988年获得城镇地位,1998年的市镇合并形成了今天的霍尔纳菲厄泽市镇。港口和渔业一直是当地发展的核心。
