Vök Baths
About Vök Baths
Vök Baths are unique floating geothermal pools on Lake Urriðavatn near Egilsstaðir, where natural hot springs rise through the cold lake water — one of the only floating geothermal baths in the world.
History & Background
The baths take their name from the Icelandic word 'vök' meaning a hole in the ice — referencing the natural hot spring vents that remain open even when the lake surface freezes in winter. The facility opened in 2019 and was designed to integrate with the natural lake environment, with the floating pools and walkways elevated over the water. The surrounding birch forest and mountain backdrop make it one of Iceland's most scenic bathing experiences.
