Um

Um Magnúsarfoss

A small waterfall in Vestragil at Skaftafell, beside the trail network leading toward Svartifoss and Sjónarsker.

A quieter Skaftafell waterfall with an unusual connection to Iceland's early rural hydropower history.

Magnúsarfoss also has a direct link with Skaftafell's local energy history. A small hydroelectric station was built below the waterfall in 1925 to supply the farms at Bölti and Sel; the restored station is now accessible on a short walking route and can be combined with a Svartifoss or Sel hike.

Visstu að?

A small hydroelectric station below Magnúsarfoss began operating in 1925 and served nearby farms until 1973.
