Lagarfljót Worm Lake

Lagarfljót is Iceland's third largest lake and home to the legendary Lagarfljótsormurinn — an Icelandic lake monster comparable to the Loch Ness Monster, reported since the 14th century. The long, narrow glacial lake stretches 25 km through the Fljótsdalshérað valley, fed by the Jökulsá á Dal river and the Lagarfljót glacial river. The valley around the lake is lush and green with some of Iceland's oldest and densest woodland. A circular road around the lake passes historic farm sites and forests.
