Gígjökull er skriðjökull sem fellur brattur og sprunginn norður úr Eyjafjallajökli (1). Jökullinn hopaði mikið í gosinu í Eyjafjallajökli árið 2010 (2). „Lón sem áður var fyrir framan Gígjökul hvarf algjörlega í gosinu og er nú hægt að fara verulega nálægt jöklinum og þar eru sérstæðar jarðmyndanir. Eldgosið í Eyjafjallajökli hefur enn mikið aðdráttarafl og er Gígjökull sá staður sem flestir geta sótt án mikillar fyrirhafnar“ (3).
