The Fimmvörðuháls trail starts at Skógafoss and ends in Þórsmörk valley (or vice versa). The full hike takes 10-12 hours and gains about 1,000 metres in elevation. Highlights: - 26 waterfalls along the trail - Two mountain huts (Baldvinsskáli and Fimmvörðuskáli) - 2010 lava fields and craters - Views of Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers Best hiked in June-September. Winter hiking requires mountaineering experience.
