Eggin í Gleðivík was conceived by Icelandic artist Sigurður Guðmundsson and officially unveiled in 2009. The project was commissioned as a tribute to the diverse birdlife of the Fáskrúðsfjörður region, highlighting the area's ecological significance and cultural connection to its natural surroundings. Guðmundsson's vision was to create a series of sculptures that would blend seamlessly with the landscape while simultaneously drawing attention to the intricate beauty of avian eggs.
