About Strandakirkja
Strandakirkja (The Church on the Shore) is a remote white church perched on the dramatic south coast of the Reykjanes Peninsula. According to legend, sailors lost in a storm prayed for rescue and promised to build a church wherever they landed — this isolated spot on the lava coastline was the result. The church dates to the 12th century and remains one of Iceland's most photographed and atmospheric landmarks.
