Um Íslands Hrafnistumenn Memorial

Íslands Hrafnistumenn is a 2008 memorial sculpture by Erlingur Jónsson honouring the fishing and seafaring heritage of Vogar and Vatnsleysuströnd.

The memorial Íslands Hrafnistumenn stands at Stóru-Vogar by Vogar and was unveiled in 2008. The artwork was created by Erlingur Jónsson, who was born at Móakot on Vatnsleysuströnd in 1920. The sculpture honours the strong maritime tradition of Vogar and Vatnsleysuströnd, which was once one of Iceland's important centres of seasonal rowing-boat fisheries. It is an easy cultural stop to combine with the shoreline, Vogar and nearby historic sites.
