Landbrotshólar eru fjölmargir gjallhólar sem talið er að hafi myndast þegar gaus í Eldgjá árið 934. Hólarnir mynda stærsta samfellda svæði gervigíga á Íslandi en þeir ná yfir 50 m2 (1). Gígarnir „hafa myndast þar sem hraun hefur runnið yfir votlendi. Eru þeir misjafnir að stærð og lögun, sumir eru holir að innan og hafa jafnvel verið notaðir fyrir fjárbyrgi. Hraunið er misjafnlega mikið gróið, mest í útjöðrum þar sem bæirnir standa en minna þegar kemur inn á það“ (2).
