Hörgárdalur

Hörgárdalur lies west of Akureyri and forms one of the main valleys of Hörgársveit. Its lower slopes are green and farmed, while the landscape rises sharply into the mountains associated with Tröllaskagi. The valley's geography is complex, with side valleys, passes and distinct mountain ridges shaping views in every direction. Þorvaldsdalur cuts through the mountain area west of the lower valley and is open at both ends, while Möðruvellir and other long-established farms sit beneath the surrounding slopes. For most visitors Hörgárdalur is experienced as part of the journey west from Akureyri or as a base for rural and mountain exploration. It does not have one single focal attraction, so its value is in the broader landscape: farms, valleys, mountain views and access toward the interior of Tröllaskagi.
