„Elliðaárdalurinn er eitt stærsta græna svæðið innan þéttbýliskjarna Reykjavíkur. (...) Elliðaár falla úr Elliðavatni í norður og vestur milli Breiðholts og Selás- og Ártúnsholt í tveimur kvíslum. Má segja að þær skipti borginni í tvennt við Elliðaárósa. Lax gengur upp í árnar og eru þær með vinsælli laxveiðiám á suðvesturhorni landsins. Elliðaár voru virkjaðar árið 1921 og er stærsta stíflan nálægt gamla Árbæjarbænum. Í Elliðaárdal hefur verið stunduð skógrækt en þar má einnig finna fjölda náttúrulegra gróðurlenda. Fuglalíf er mjög auðugt í dalnum.“ Einnig er jarðfræði dalsins áhugaverð.
