Eldborg at Höskuldarvellir is a large scoria-and-spatter crater beside the broad grassy Höskuldarvellir plain. The crater is older than Iceland's settlement and has been partly altered by past quarrying. Geothermal steam and the surrounding mountain scenery make the area visually distinctive. Access is via the interior track network, where conditions can vary greatly; use legal roads and tracks only and check seasonal access before visiting.
