„Í túninu á Efri Torfustöðum, skammt frá bænum, er steinn sem skal vera yfir leiði Skáld-Torfu, sem þar bjó. Á hann er klappað í rúnum. Steins þessa er aftur getið í Árbók Fornleifafélagsins 1895. Hafði Brynjólfur Jónsson á Minna Núpi farið norður þangað og skoðað hann og lýsir honum svo: Í túninu á Torfustöðum er rúnasteinn, eða steinn með úthöggnum leturmyndum. Það er ísaldar hnullungur, aflangur, hér um bil 3,5 alin á lengd, 2 alnir á breidd og 1 alin á hœð. Á hann eru höggnar tvær leturmyndir (eða bandrúnir?) og er meira en hálf alinnar bil á milli þeirra.“
