Þingskálar eru forn þingstaður, staðsettur í Rangárþingi ytra fyrir austan vestari Rangá, langt upp í héraði. Mótar þar enn fyrir gömlum búðatóttum, 40 talsins (1). Heita tóftirnar meðal annars eftir Gunnari og Njáli. „Við bæinn er jarðfastur steinn, nefndur Höggsteinn, en þar voru sakamenn hálshöggnir“ (2).
