Svarfaðardalsárós

Svarfaðardalsárós lies at the lower end of Svarfaðardalur near Dalvík, where the Svarfaðardalsá river meets the coastal wetland environment. The area is part of the Svarfaðardalur Nature Reserve and forms one of the most important bird habitats in this part of Eyjafjörður. Wet meadows, ponds, river channels and coastal habitat support a high concentration of species in a relatively small area. Waterfowl and waders are particularly prominent, while passerines, gulls and other birds use the reserve during breeding and migration periods. A marked walking network provides access from Dalvík, including routes along the river toward Hrísahöfði, Hrísatjörn and Húsabakki. Information signs and hides allow visitors to observe birds without entering sensitive habitat. The site is best approached as part of the wider Svarfaðardalur Nature Reserve rather than as a standalone scenic viewpoint.
