About Súgandafjörður & Súðavík Arctic Fox Centre
The Melrakkasetur (Arctic Fox Centre) in Súðavík is Iceland's only research centre dedicated to the arctic fox — the country's only native land mammal. The centre houses rescued foxes in large enclosures and offers guided tours explaining fox behaviour, ecology and the ongoing debate between farmers and conservationists. Interactive exhibits cover fox biology and the seasonal changes in their white-to-brown coat. A small café and shop are on site. The surrounding fjord area is beautiful walking territory.
