Við Stóru-Ásgeirsá eru merkilegar sögulegar minjar. Rústirnar voru friðlýstar árið 1978. Í friðlýsingu eru eftirfarandi minjar taldar upp: „gamlar traðir upp frá bænum“ og „gömul rafstöð, stöðvarhús, túrbína og rafall í árgilinu sunnanvið bæinn, ásamt stíflu ofar í ánni og vatnspípu á milli“ (1). Bærinn sjálfur kemur fram í Grettissögu (2) og þar fannst elsti gripur Byggðasafns Húnvetninga og Strandamanna, kirkjubiti sem ritað er á ártalið 1648 (2,3).
