About Stífluhólar
„Fljótaá á upptök í fjöllum norðanvert á Tröllaskaga, einkum sunnan við Lágheiði. Áin rennur í gegnum Stíflu, sérstæðan dal sem er 2 km að lengd og 1 km að breidd“ (1). Dalurinn dregur nafn sitt „af hólagirðingu yfir þveran garðinn er nefnast Stífluhólar og eru þeir framhlaup úr fjallinu austan dalsins“ (2). „Fljótaá hefur brotið sér leið í gegnum hólana á 1 km kafla. (...) Framkvæmdir hófust sumarið 1942 og var Fljótaá stífluð í gljúfrum um 300 metrum frá þeim stað er hún rennur inn í Stífluhóla“ (1).
