Staðarkirkja á Reykjanesi

Staðarkirkja is located at Staður on Reykjanes in Austur-Barðastrandarsýsla, roughly 8 km west of Reykhólar. Despite the name Reykjanes, this is not the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland; the church belongs in the Westfjords region. The present timber church was built in 1864 by Daníel Hjaltason, who was a goldsmith, farmer and local official. Staður remained a rectory until 1948, when that function moved to Reykhólar. The church is maintained as a heritage site and remains a compact, well-preserved example of a 19th-century Icelandic rural church.
