Lindarsandur's history is intimately tied to its natural namesake: a freshwater spring. The name itself, meaning 'Spring Sands,' directly references this vital source of water located in the fields above the beach. This spring was renowned for its constant flow, providing an essential and reliable water supply in an often harsh environment. In times past, the spring was made even more accessible by a built, stone-lined well. This well allowed livestock, particularly cattle, to easily descend and quench their thirst. It was a significant landmark and a testament to human ingenuity in harnessing natural resources for sustenance in the region. However, the dynamic coastal landscape of Lindarsandur has gradually reclaimed these historical markers. The relentless movement of sand, molded by wind and waves, has over the years filled in the old well. Today, the physical evidence of this once-important structure and the human activity it supported has vanished, leaving only the story and the natural beauty of the sandy beach.

Lindarsandur is a relatively unusual sandy stretch on the Reykjanes coast. The name refers to a freshwater spring in the pasture above the shoreline. A stone-lined well was built there so livestock could reach the water, but shifting coastal sand has gradually covered the old structure. The site is best suited to a coastal walk and landscape stop. As on all exposed Reykjanes shores, visitors should treat waves and changing weather with caution and should not rely on the area as a supervised swimming site.
