„Laufskálarétt í Hjaltadal er vinsælasta stóðrétt landsins en þangað mæta árlega allt að þrjú þúsund gestir“ (1). Réttin var byggð af bændum í Viðvíkur- og Hólahreppum árið 1954. „Réttin er öll steinsteypt og stendur á stólpum en annars holt undir veggi, almenningur er láréttur en dilkarnir 23 halla lítilega frá miðju“ (2).
