Kirkjugólf, known as "The Church Floor" in Icelandic, is a unique natural monument located in South Iceland, specifically just east of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Its formation is a result of ancient lava flows that cooled and contracted, creating the distinctive hexagonal basalt columns that are now exposed at ground level. This geological process, common in volcanic regions, has here created a remarkably flat, pavement-like surface, leading to its evocative name. The site is recognized as a significant natural monument due to its unique presentation of basalt columns.

Kirkjugólf is a small geological feature near Kirkjubæjarklaustur where erosion has exposed the upper ends of basalt columns at ground level. Their polygonal pattern can look like deliberately laid paving, which gave the site its name, but the feature is entirely natural. Visitors should remain on the established approach and avoid damaging the exposed rock and surrounding vegetation.
