„Jón Ósmann var ferjumaður alla sína ævi, hóf starfið sem unglingur og sinnti því allt til dauðadags. Hann var rúmlega tveggja metra maður, þrekvaxinn og afrenndur að afli, sem nýttist honum vel í starfi, er knýja þurfti níðþunga dragferjuna fullhlaðna, á handaflinu einu landa á milli. Í lifanda lífi var Jón Ósmann þegar orðinn þjóðsagnapersóna, þá var hann ferjumaður lengst allra á Íslandi og einmitt þess vegna þykir áhugahópnum Jón Ósmann verðugur fulltrúi þeirrar stéttar manna sem önnuðust hin erfiðu samgöngustörf á og við stórfljót landsins.“
