Hallormsstaðaskógur Forest
About Hallormsstaðaskógur Forest
Hallormsstaðaskógur is Iceland's largest forest — a remarkable sight in a country famous for being nearly treeless. Covering 740 hectares around the shores of Lake Lagarfljót, the forest contains over 80 tree species including native birch, rowan and introduced conifers, some reaching 15 metres. Walking trails wind through the forest and along the lakeshore. A campsite, café and horse rental are available. In autumn, the forest turns gold and red in spectacular fashion.
