Hafnarfjörður Viking Festival
About Hafnarfjörður Viking Festival
Hafnarfjörður hosts one of the world's largest Viking festivals in June, transforming the town into a Norse encampment with hundreds of costumed participants from around Europe. The festival features battle re-enactments, traditional crafts, Viking food and music, archery, axe throwing and fire shows. Hafnarfjörður is known as the 'Town of Elves' due to its large lava rock formations believed locally to be inhabited by hidden people (huldufólk). The town itself is a pleasant seaside destination year-round.
