About Gullsteinn
Gullsteinn er hjá Stóru-Giljá í Vatnsdal og er mikill jarðfastur steinn. Sagt er að Koðrán bóndi, „faðir Þorvalds víðförla er boðaði fyrstur kristna trú á Íslandi, hafi haft átrúnað á steininum. Koðrán vildi ekki láta skírast af syni sínum og taldi að þá myndi verndarvætturinn í steininum reiðast. En Friðrik biskup fór þá að steininum og söng yfir honum þar til hann sprakk“ (1). „Við steininn er minnismerki, reist árið 1981, til minningar um að 1000 ár væru liðin frá útkomu Þorvalds víðförla og Friðreks biskups til kristniboðsstarfa á Íslandi“ (2,3).
