The present Blönduós Church was consecrated in 1993. Its design was conceived with reference to the surrounding mountains and landscape, while objects from the older church were incorporated into the new building.

Blönduós Church is the modern parish church of the town of Blönduós in northwest North Iceland. The building was consecrated in 1993 and has a distinctive architectural form that draws inspiration from the mountains and landscape around the town. Although the church is modern, it maintains continuity with the earlier church in Blönduós. Religious objects from the old building were transferred to the new church and remain part of its interior. Its prominent location near Route 1 makes the church one of the most visible landmarks in Blönduós. Visitors interested in contemporary Icelandic architecture can combine a short stop here with a walk by the Blanda river and the older buildings on the opposite side of town.
