„Í Hvammssveit í Dalasýslu er bær sá sem Ásgarður heitir. Stendur hann skammt frá sjó undir fjallshlíð einni fagurri. Með sjónum liggur grund slétt og fögur. Ofanvert við grundina er flói mikill sem liggur upp undir Ásgarðsbæ. Upp úr miðjum flóanum stendur stapi mikill sem heitir Ásgarðsstapi. Það var gamalla manna mál að þar byggi álfafólk enda þóttust menn oft verða varir við það.“
