Móri is a recurring figure in Icelandic ghost lore: a restless male spirit believed to follow people and families.
The Story
In Icelandic folk belief, a móri is a male haunting spirit, sometimes attached to a person or family across generations. Unlike a single ghost with one fixed biography, móri appears in many regional tales.
The stories often describe disturbances that refuse to end: unexplained sounds, frightening apparitions, and misfortunes attributed to a spirit that will not leave its chosen household. Some versions connect the haunting to a wrong committed long ago; others emphasise the difficulty of escaping an inherited curse.
These accounts offer a window into Icelandic beliefs about death, obligation, and the supernatural. They are folklore rather than verified paranormal events, and there is no single reliable GPS point for the tradition.
