Þjóðleikhúsið, the National Theatre of Iceland, is the country's principal theatre and one of Reykjavík's architectural landmarks. Founded in 1950, it stages a full season of Icelandic and international drama, opera, musicals and children's performances. The distinctive building with its grey concrete exterior sits on Hverfisgata, one of Reykjavík's cultural streets. Performances are primarily in Icelandic, with some English supertitles for major productions.
