Laugarbrekka is the legendary birthplace of Guðrún Ósvífrsdóttir, the remarkable heroine of Laxdæla Saga and arguably the most famous woman in all of Icelandic literature. Known for four marriages, great beauty and the quote 'I was worst to the one I loved the most', her life story reads like a Viking-age tragedy. The farm site is still active and the area offers views of Snæfellsjökull glacier and the surrounding peninsula scenery that inspired the sagas.
