📖 Story
Goðasteinn ('Chieftain's Stone') is the premier viewpoint at Þingvellir. From this elevated platform, you see the entire assembly site where Iceland's parliament met for 900 years (930-1798). The tectonically-formed valley stretches below, Öxará river flows toward Drekkingarhylur drowning pool, Lögberg (Law Rock) sits below, and Þingvallavatn lake reflects mountains. Interpretive signs explain the history and geology. Most visitors stop here first before descending into the rift valley. The panorama helps visualize how Althing functioned.
