About Glerárgil

„Glerárgil er með dýpstu og mikilfenglegustu árgiljum í Eyjafirði, en jafnframt eitt hið gróðurríkasta. Það er grafið af Gleránni þar sem hún rennur fram úr mynni Glerárdals í um 200 m hæð yfir sjávarmáli og nær niður að Gleráreyrum. Þótt umhverfi gilsins hafi víða verið raskað til mikilla muna hefur gilið sjálft sloppið að mestu við breytingar af manna völdum, enda á köflum lítt aðgengilegt. Efra gilið er hrikalegt árgljúfur, allt að 80 m djúpt, og breitt að sama skapi, en neðra gilið er víðast fremur grunnt og þröngt enda greinilega yngra en efra gilið. Góðir göngustígar eru meðfram neðra gilinu.“
