Barnafoss (Children's Waterfall)

About Barnafoss (Children's Waterfall)

Barnafoss is located immediately next to Hraunfossar, accessible from the same parking area. A short walk along the river leads to viewing platforms above the waterfall. The falls are narrow but powerful, with white water churning through a tight lava gorge. The site is dramatic and offers good photo opportunities.

📖 Story

According to legend, two children from a nearby farm crossed a natural stone bridge over the waterfall while their parents were at church. They fell into the churning rapids and drowned. The grief-stricken mother had the stone bridge destroyed so no other children would meet the same fate.
