Strandarkirkja (Miracle Church)
Strandarkirkja is a small white church on the remote southeastern coast of the Reykjanes Peninsula, built on the spot where Norwegian sailors wrecked in a storm prayed for safe passage and were miraculously guided to shore by a bright light. In gratitude they built the first church here in the 12th century. The current building dates to 1888 and is one of Iceland's wealthiest churches, with donations arriving from sailors worldwide in thanks for answered prayers. It's a peaceful and atmospheric stop.
