Book NowAbout Sólheimasandur Plane Wreck Walk
The plane wreck is located on Sólheimasandur black sand desert, about 10 km east of Skógafoss. Access is via a 4 km (one-way) walk from a parking area on Route 1. The walk takes about 45–60 minutes each way across flat, exposed terrain. The wreck itself is weathered but intact, with the fuselage, wings, and tail still recognizable. It's a surreal and photogenic sight against the black sand and distant mountains. Visitors must walk — driving on the sand is prohibited to protect the fragile environment. Bring warm clothing, as the area is windy and exposed year-round.
