About Hliðskjálf við Arnarvatn
„Þjóðleiðin frá norðurlandi til suðurlands liggur um Arnarvatnsheiði og milli Arnarvatns og Réttarvatns“ við Skammá sem rennur milli vatnanna stóð um aldir lítið sæluhúsið Hliðskjálf. Jónas Hallgrímsson gisti þar árið 1841 og orti kvæðið Réttarvatn. Borgfirðingar riðu um á leið í Örlygsstaðabardaga 1238 og Grettir Ásmundsson dvaldi á þessum slóðum. Húsið var endurbyggt á 19. öld en um aldamótin 1900 var það mjög lélegt og var svo rifið á árunum milli 1960- og 70. Hliðskjálf hefur nú verið endurbyggt frá grunni og er nú opið almenningi.
