The name Dynjandi means 'Thunderous' or 'The Thundering One' — a name earned by the roar of the waterfall that can be heard from the fjord below. Dynjandi has become the symbol of the Westfjords region and is the most visited natural attraction in this remote part of Iceland. The waterfall fans from 30 meters wide at the top to 60 meters at the base across a total drop of about 100 meters, with six named smaller waterfalls cascading down the rocky slope beneath it.

Dynjandi, also known as Fjallfoss, is widely considered the most majestic and largest series of waterfalls in the Westfjords, nestled at the head of Arnarfjörður. This iconic natural monument, protected since 1981, cascades an impressive 100 meters down a rugged cliff face. Its unique tiered structure, vividly captured in the image, resembles a grand bridal veil, spreading from approximately 30 meters wide at the top to 60 meters at its base. The name 'Dynjandi' fittingly translates to 'The Thunderous One' in Icelandic, a testament to the powerful roar that fills the air as the water plunges.
